How does it work?
Virtualization providers and system integrators write the scripts and queries in-house
or can use the sample data collection code packages
provided on SQL Farms' website. All scripts and queries are then packaged into
a single file. Before sending the package to remote users, the code and the overall
data collection process can be tested in-house against the internal infrastructure.
After testing, the virtualization provider sends a code package file together
with a few other files to the remote location. An end-user (1-page) manual is also
available for remote users, and vitualization providers can embed their logos and brands
in this redistributable manual.
End-users can view the code package to check the SQL code that will be run.
The end-user then updates a single file to point to the databases and servers
in the remote data center, and runs one command line. In turn, SQL Farm Combine™
connects to all the appropriate databases and servers and executes the SQL code
to collect the needed data. The authentication type and credentials
used to connect and run the queries are determined by the user: Users can instruct
Combine to use the active directory with Windows authentication, or use a
SQL login instead. Either way, users can provide Combine with minimal read-only permissions.
After the data is collected, Combine automatically aggregates the results
from all databases and SQL instances to provide one result set per query,
and all the results are automatically saved into a single file.
The output file can then be sent to users at the virtualization provider
location for viewing and further processing.

|
Scheduled or on-demand data collection
SQL Farm Combine™ can be used to collect performance metrics and get data in a remote environment once,
or can be scheduled to retrieve data according to dates and times dictated by
the remote users. A single output file that contains the collected data is automatically created and saved each
time the data collection task is run, so that users can detect performance changes
and patterns over time.
|
|
100% transparency and visibility
At any point during the data collection or the transfer of data results, users have
complete access to view the code executed, the obtained data, as well as receive
status and informational messages from SQL Farm Combine™.
|
|
100% secure
Users at every IT environment provide Combine with the authentication type and credentials
that should be used to connect to all the SQL Servers, databases, and instances.
Users can instruct Combine to use Windows authentication thereby force the tool
to use the active directory permissions and settings. On top, users can
provide a SQL login and password that will be used to execute code against all databases.
In order to collect data (e.g., retrieve the content of all dynamic management views on all SQL
instances), Combine only requires minimal read permissions. Moreover, Combine
informs the user each time it performs any execution related actions and provides
a complete report and action-trail with all messages and results.
|
|
100% reliability
SQL Farm Combine™ is used in highly secure production environments containing
hundred to thousands of SQL Server instances. SQL Farm Combine™
offers mature and track-proven technology to handle all your data collection needs.
|
|
No remote installations
SQL Farm Combine™ offers redistributable components: The querying engine and
data collection files are light-weight (all files together are less than 1.3MB),
and do not require any special prerequisites at the remote site. In fact,
the redistributable components can be placed on any machine in the remote data center.
End-users at the remote
location do not need to install any 3rd party software components in order
to retrieve the desired data.
|
|
No server registration
SQL Farm Combine™ does not require SQL server registration.
The redistributable components allow users to point and click
and then instruct Combine where to run the distributed queries and data collection tasks.
|
|
Zero footprint
SQL Farm Combine™ does not leave any footprint on databases, servers, or remote
client machines. After collecting data, users can delete all the
redistributable files and need not worry about trails or marks left
after the execution.

Co-branded user manuals
SQL Farms offers redistributable packages and licenses for virtualization companies and system integrators.
On top, an end-user manual is available for download on SQL Farms' website.
This user manual can be co-branded with the vendor's logos and images,
subject to the vendor's redistribution license agreement.
